The delectable indie sounds of Chicago's The Ams has made it way to us. Yippie! Simply beautifully crafted harmonies set to a uniqueness that is often missing in today's music is surely to get a ton of people following this band shortly.
The Ams are brother and sister Frank and Anna and they did it all by themselves; they made an epic debut album all on their own. The urgency and pulse of their music is richly layered through an imaginative album of whirling musical treats rapped around overdubs positively sprinkled with rock and pop delights. The album transcends its only limitation(that not too many people know about them)and delivers what is a rich, descriptive and wonderful story telling that spans the entire album. This duo is a musical force that will sink its teeth into you with a retro yet fresh spin on the translucent sounds of an era past!

The duality of The Ams experience is wonderful. Having written an album based on a fictional 60's character, the music offers conflicting, urgent and tantalizing messages. From dark to uplifting, from new to being driven by its past, The Ams debut is an amazing experience for fans of music. The listener gets to go back and forth between so many emotions, but never away from the awe that is The Ams. It will be great to follow this gem of a band and hopefully get the chance to see them shortly on the road!

Music shapes life. Or is that life shapes music? Either way, listening to the music of Vic Chesnutt, there is a profundity of true experience, some would say agony, that renders his music powerfully gifted with an honesty rarely shared. Listening to the album "At The Cut," released a few backs, Vic reminds you of a singer, a man transformed by his own experiences to readily render himself, exposed through a sound mirror that tells no lies, only truths.
The music on the album speaks of his journeys through some of the most wonderful folk music we have heard in a long, long while. His career is littered with amazing accomplishments, from collaborations with Widespread Panic to his music being used for a tribute album to assist financially troubled musicians to The Georgia House Of Representatives passing a resolution on his musical genius. But with Vic Chesnutt, what you get is amazing artist with a resounding theme to his work and his music; simply that it is breathtaking and to be shared with the world for his contribution, is felt every day by simply joining in the warmth and heroism of his music.

Whoa. This four-piece packs a punch. At first listen, Washington D.C's own Bellflur might strike you as just another band. But listen a little more closely, and you are reminded why we moved this band up to the front of the queue of music we needed to let our friends know about!
If you need that delectable sound combination between structured chaos and perfection, then play Bellflur. If you want to trip the line between aggression and a new sound swell, then play Bellflur. If you need some music shock therapy to awaken your inner being and to set you free and traverse the doldrums that is your Ipod, blast Bellflur. In this instance, true art and four dudes converge to make stellar music, the only way Bellflur know how- raw and always pushing itself and its fans to new heights.

Whoa...I mean seriously, what can you expect from a band with a gas tank bassist? Yes that is correct, the dude made a stand up bass out of an old long gas tank and proceeded to blow away the roof at The Viper Room. The band, Split Lip Rayfield went a long way in making many new fans during this nights electrifying performance.
Split Lip is a trio from Kansas with three of the baddest musicians I have ever seen. Their strings, like their energy seemed to be bouncing and leaving long filled sound bubbles of purely joyous music emanating through the Viper Room with every note. And as the band played, it seemed as if they got stronger and more intense with every song, as evident by the gas tank bassist needing to re-tape his hands. At one point, the band was playing so intensely in such a beautiful synergy of guitar, banjo and gas tank bass, I actually thought the instruments would burst apart from being worked too hard. Hell Yeah!
When I was a kid and tried getting into shows on the Sunset Strip, I could never have imagined seeing a band like Split Lip. Their music, the perfect blending of bluegrass, country-billish folk is just thunderous. With every note the band plays, it seems like they enjoy themselves that much more. Split Lip's music is good enough for every dam occasion, no matter your mood because it will uplift, kick you in the pants, and be sure to make you stomp your feet. They are currently on tour so give yourself an early holiday present and go see them. You will not regret it! Their upcoming shows:

Give yourselves a treat this evening. Forget your plans, your routine and make it a point to go see a truly wonderful band make truly wonderful music. But not just any band. If you are lucky, you will get a glimpse into one of the tightest bands out there, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam! Having seen this exquisite band live before, we are really happy they are on a tiny tour up and down the left coast right now. What to expect when listening to them; titanic sounding music with just the right combination of thunderous guitars, tempo shifts, and frenetic energy sure to to revitalize you right to the very core of your being. Our only suggestion, is to bring your friends so they don't have to hear you rave about them for days and days and they actually get to experience it for themselves!
