It's winter and almost everyone I know would rather lose their left foot than go out and brave the cold weather. But if you're the sort of person that needs a reminder of warmer days are on their way, then Singing Bridges is right up your alley. Their EP Three Trains is filled with catchy, peppy noise-rock tunes (like the tambourine-heavy "Crazy Street" or "Edith Keeler"). Hell, they even have a track called, "Sunny Day." Singing Bridges is the kind of music I have a special place in my heart for, but definitely can't listen to right now. It's just not for the dead of winter. But don't get me wrong, this will be the first thing on my iPod come June!

The timing could not have been better for Oakland's Man/Mircale to make my day, week and, actually my entire month. Playing the their album nonstop since I got it, I have to admit I am smitten with this band.So. Here is the deal. We really really like Man/Mircale. They seem to meld a wonderful sneaky mix of Modest Mouse tones with a little David Bryne madness in a an catchy rock swirl sound concoction that will surely feed your need for energetic, fun and mesmerizing music. First impressions matter. The softness, raspy and oh-so-sexy vibrancy that is Nicole Simone is captivating. Sweetly centered around her joyful, tender musings, acoustically, the girl can flat out seduce the doubts off anyone. She'll hit you with a little, come and get me sweetness with her music. Then she swoops around and captures your entire being into the warm caress that is her sweet blend of blues, folk and classical music. The sound cloud that she will have you levitating on will leave you deeply calmed, serene and looking for someone special to share this incredible music with.

. That is all. Good day, sirs. No! This duo, Kristi and Ryan from Denver, Colorado, need no words to describe their awesomeness, but that would be a terrible injustice to all the people out there who read blogs to discover their new music fetish. Hideous Men
is half dance-happy, as heard in "Talons," and half dream scape music that is fresh with bibs, tings, bops, hidden hip-hop beats, and hollow atmospheric discoveries to keep you on your ear-toes. I have listened to their self titled EP like six times and I already want to marry it. It promotes escapism and wakes you up to dance even when you don't wanna! Let 'em in, boys!

This is a true story. The other day I was at the dentist. And as many of us do, I absolutely despise the experience. The only thing that got me through the bloody mess, beside being doped up on whatever the doctor gave, was this brief moment of wonderful music euphoria that came over me as he drilled away. There was a new band that kept massaging my ears. You see when I go to the dentist, I always listen to my iPod. At one point as he was drilling and pulling and probing as they all do, I motioned for him to stop. I had to see who this band was. It was XDS! I simply adjusted the volume, cranked it, leaned back in the uneasiness that is the real dentist experience, gave him the thumbs up and told him to start drilling again. Nothing, not even the good stuff he gave me made me as happy as listening to this dynamic band.
The deal with XDS is that their music is really solid. It simply made the entire experience that much more bearable, and yes even more pleasurable for me. And while I am now starting to feel better and the drugs have worn off, the buzz that is XDS has not as I have been listening to them for the last two days and loving every moment of their music! Check it out for yourselves. The band is Shoko-Koko and Jesse and is from Portland, Oregon. You can download their album for free here:

Set to the backdrop of a chilly Los Angeles night, emerged a voice that could bring a smile to those that needed it the most, could bring warmth to those needing a touching moment, and a whoa, I am so happy to here be thank you from the audience to the band
With the vocals and cute swagger to match, emerged the playful, joyful, boisterous reaching voice that is April Smith & The Great Picture Show. With her ecclesiastical voice that could bring together people in the utter beauty of a moment that is listening to April Smith, the band delivered a monstrous set of charming, folk and pop-laden delectable songs that will have us remembering the name April Smith.
April Smith has been getting a lot of press and rave reviews lately. And whenever you read it all, you wonder just how good it will be when experienced live. Well, on this amazing night of heartfelt storytelling and magical music making, I can tell you this girl is the real deal and is surely adding herself to great tradition of up and coming female vocalists that are starting to set themselves apart in this generation.
April Smith has a voice and energy that resonates way beyond her age and it is always a treat to see someone on the verge of that commercial crossover and recognition, play such a fantastic setting like McCabe’s. April Smith delivered a performance that left us all humbled to be in the presence of a spectacular musical experience that will leave the few of us lucky enough to see her telling all our of friends about it. Download free tracks here and be sure to check her out on one of these tour dates!

It is rare that you are hooked on it from the first note. But you are when you listen to this band. The band Vulture Whale has been making the rounds lately, getting this rave and that rave. But really, the music is all about your personal connection with it. I do not know these guys but there is an attitude, something powerful about their music that oozes rock and roll and makes you want to crank their sounds.
Alabama is in the middle of a music renaissance. No kidding it really is! But maybe, just maybe, it is because it is home to Vulture Whale and they are doing a wonderful job of staying true to their roots and making great music. Vulture Whale music is rock and roll embodied. I can see these guys inspiring mosh pits across the spots they play and having droves of groupies. The music is energetic, drop kick you in the mouth, jagger-ish vocals set to a dazzling and sweetly created noise bubble with just enough of that punk angst.
