Who knew. That a little cognac, brandy and amphetamines could make you immortal. The Mt. Ventoux is so precarious, so steep, so frightening, it has humbled many great athletes. The mountain,by which all other mountains are measured in European cycling appears in all its land ravaged, tectonic beauty and centuries old rage as a near perfect dome from faraway in Nimes, France. On a clear day, the peak can be seen from 65 miles away!
In July 1967, the great British cycling phenom, Tom Simpson would ride himself to death in pursuit of his dream. Known for his dedication and willingness to exceed typical boundaries of physical and mental exhaustion, he pushed himself to not one, but multiple collapses on his bike. With a scorching heat that would make a Las Vegas summer afternoon seem chilly, Tom pursued his destiny on one final climb that would kill him while glued to his bike, so much so that rigor mortis kicked in while still pedaling. Doctors and teammates could not pry him off his bike as he passed away before their very eyes! To struggle in the pursuit of one’s dream is a beautiful story. It does not have to end in death, but so many of us are determined to leave our imprint in life based on what we believe to be important. Music is ours.
We know we have been a bit absent over the last few months, but like the Tom Simpson buried deep within all of us, we are back with a new vigor to push ahead and build the best little music community we know how. We have some amazing things coming in the next few months(but more on that later).
We all have our personal Ventoux we need to climb to achieve our goal. To just go for it no matter the consequence. This week our message is all about the optimism needed while pursuing your dreams, no matter how steep the climb.
We feel our pulse racing doing what makes us happy, building a music experience that hopefully leaves its mark just because of the love we put into it. We ask you guys to do the same.
