Join us for a night of Great Music at The Echoplex on Friday August 22nd. Trust us when we say that you will want to see these bands perform. Lineup includes:
Ok technically he is free. Its not exactly Rodney King versus the LAPD back in the day. But when your buddies need a helping hand, you jump at the opportunity to do any little bit you can do for them. And it makes it even easier when its about supporting your local bands, one of which are just unfortunately having to deal with some BS. So last night with about seemingly a thousand things going on in Los Angeles, we strolled into the All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock for the Spencer Rollins Benefit show.
Our buddy at Rockinsider put together this show to help raise the legal fund fees for Spencer to contest(and I am certain take on and beat) some charges. And its unfortunate that we were brought together under these circumstances, but I am also thankful as you get to witness a lineup of cool, local talent such as Young Animals, Exit Music, Dorian Wood, The Cobra Lilies and Avi Buffalo all to the amazing backdrop of people bowling while the sets are going!
Young Animals performing:
On a night like last night you do realize certain things. That no matter what is going on in your personal life, its good to make a contribution in whatever way you can. You need to look beyond yourself and things just make a little more sense.
Dorian Wood Performing:
Live music in Los Angeles is very real now and really better then anything else anywhere else. There I said it. But you also realize that the power of good people armed with live music for a good cause helps all our problems fade away for the night. It connects us all.
I have linked to the Young Animals page so you can make a small contribution if it suits you. All these bands have upcoming shows and lets go out and support them under better circumstances and not only when they are under some po’ po’ threat. And yes, its official, my camera crapped out so sorry again for the quality of the video.
Yes. Its true, I am that annoying dude with a digital camera that pretty much records an entire set with a $100 digi cam but seriously why not?
Take yesterday for instance, I was depressed, had a shitty day, alone and bored and decided to go see Santogold at Hollywood & Vine…yep, Santogold and for Free. Wow, I love Los Angeles.
So, at Loudvine.com, we have decided, if our friends can’t be there with us, we will bring you the show…thus the overwhelmingly long videos of all the shows we cover(For more videos, check us out on Youtube
Santogold…simply put, crushes it everytime. Walking on stage after her sisters, she started rocking with L.E.S. Artists and just kept on going. And going. And although it was a short set, it was Santogold, for free, in the Lo-Cal sunshine with a bunch of hot chicks dancing. Cant beat that.
Santogold looked like something out of an Erik B & Rakim video, with her bright neon top and old school oakley blades, but man, can this girl sing. The last time I saw her was at Coachella(but this was different as I was not sweating out the previous nights booze in the record desert sun as I did at that show, but I digress). She was about to leave for a tour after yesterday’s performance, so like a woman who takes herself shopping to make herself feel better, I decided I’d take myself to listen to some live music. And really, it helps. You have to do nice things for yourself. And live music does it for me!
So there I am, possibly the oldest person in the audience, my arm sore from holding up the digi cam for three minutes at a time(my trainer, thinks I need to get back into the gym), starting to sweat, and hearing people behind me wondering why I would record an entire song…and simply, the answer is because I can and wanted to share it with the members of Loudvine.com.
By the time she finished her set with “Starstruck”, I was no longer depressed, moved again by the power of live music and already started driving to our next gig. More coverage to come shortly.
